One of Den’s greatest pleasure in life, was being a grandad to Ashley and Connor and he loved spending time with them whenever he could. During Ashley’s diving period, Den went along to watch his training sessions every evening and became a familiar face at the pool. He even accompanied Plymouth’s diving team on two separate trips to Canada and travelled the length and breadth of the UK to support Ashley as he competed. Den was also instrumental in allowing Connor to try all sort of sports and often served as his taxi driver, taking him to hockey, table tennis, scooter riding and diving. He even helped out with his younger grandson’s paper round! In recent years, Den enjoyed spending time with ‘granddog’ Willow, who loved sitting on his shoulder or waiting patiently for the treats that grandad always carried in his pocket.
