Den took great pleasure in big gatherings with his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends and often enjoyed a brandy or two and a cigar on these occasions.

He was an avid armchair sports enthusiast and liked nothing better than a relaxing Saturday afternoon in front of the television, flicking from channel to channel to make sure he didn’t miss anything.

Den always enjoyed the company of his brother, Ron, brother-in-law, Keith, and lifelong friend, Paul, and they would stroll around the golf course together, trying to outdo one another, enjoying the snacks that Kay had packed for them all, and listening to Ron and Paul’s funny tales. On his return home, Den would give an enthusiastic rundown of how each hole had played out and how, sadly but inevitably, he had just missed out!

He occasionally played golf with his sister Marlene, too, although his family never found out who won. Den was always thrilled to bits when he out drove Marlene, however, and was extremely competitive. He considered getting a hole in one to be one of his greatest achievements in life.
